The Cremator gun[1][2] is a weapon cut from Half-Life 2. It can be found in the playable Half-Life 2 leak.

Overview[edit]
Described as a large spray hose which would disintegrate organic matter upon contact,[3] the weapon was intended to be used by the Cremator. As little functioning code pertaining to both the Cremator and its gun remains in the leak, much about their exact behavior is unknown. The Train to City 17 vignette depicts Cremators hosing a train yard with fire to incinerate Headcrabs,[4] suggesting a flamethrower-style weapon. However, sound files present in the leak that are associated with the Cremator[5] as well as a comment in the code[6] indicate the developers ultimately decided to have the gun spray plasma.
Leftover code and sprites show that the plasma, which is blue-green in color, would launch from the weapon in an arced stream[7] with sparking plasma embers trickling down across the length of the spray.[8] When plasma spray hit a surface, it would leave behind glowing blue-tinted flames on the ground for a brief period.[8][9] If the player was hit by plasma, the damage would cause the screen to flash blue[10] and create the sound of sizzling flesh.[11] A continuous spray of plasma onto a corpse would eventually destroy it completely.[12]
A viewmodel exists for the Cremator gun,[13] indicating it may have been able to be picked up and used by the player. This weapon model is animated but has a broken texture.
Behind the scenes[edit]
An earlier twin-pronged design for the gun, also seen in the Cremator's concept art, is part of a Cremator model included in the 2016-2017 repository leaks. A hose extends from the back of the gun and connects to the large sphere (possibly the Cremator's own stomach) situated in the center of the Cremator's abdomen. This earlier weapon model is very incomplete and is missing a texture, and that may explain why the Cremator model seen in the character gallery map of the SIGGRAPH 2000 demonstration video lacks a weapon,[14] while the same map shown in a 2002 build has the later design of the gun present.[15]
The Cremator gun has been long been confused with the Immolator weapon by fans. Since the Cremator gun and the Cremator itself lacked functionality in the playable leak build, and the Immolator lacked a proper unique weapon model (using the Combine Guard Gun in the leak as a presumed placeholder), it was commonly assumed that the Immolator's behavior as well as its name applied to the Cremator's weapon. Many mods featuring beta elements of Half-Life 2 have adopted this erroneous notion, further perpetuating the confusion over the years.
