Senior Drill Instructor Dwight T. Barnes is a Marine Drill Instructor stationed in Santego Military Base, Arizona. He trained some if not all the men in the Hazardous Environment Combat Unit, including Adrian Shephard.

Behind the scenes

Four cut animations intended for the various Drill Instructors seen during Shephard's training can still be found in the shared model "drill.mdl". These include blowing a whistle, shouting into a megaphone, and looking through binoculars, with corresponding submodels.

Trivia

• During the game, HECU soldiers sometimes say "If only Drill Instructor Barnes could see me now...".

• Barnes is likely inspired by Senior Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman from the film Full Metal Jacket.

• If injured or killed, Barnes uses security guard voice clips, as any other Marine found at Santego.

• He shares the same model and voice actor with other Drill Instructors found on the base.
