City Scanner image change to HLA scanner?[edit]

I'm just wondering what the reason is for this? I know HLA is the most recent Half-Life game, but does that mean that Eli, the Metrocop, the Strider, the G-Man, and so on should all have their article images replaced with the HLA equivalents? Surely it would be better to have both a shot of the HL2 scanner and a shot of the HLA scanner, like the Vortigaunt page? --Kralich (talk) 21:48, 23 January 2021 (MSK)

With the release of Half-Life: Alyx, we've now reached the point where we may have as many as three mainline depictions of any one character, creature, or item. Hence, rather than maintain increasingly growing collages or worry about what specific depiction to choose, the most appropriate route here would be to update the templates with an image toggle switch so that the viewer can instantly toggle between all of the mainline depictions right in the infobox, the default being HL:A's as it's the latest. However, it'll take some time and effort to update all of the relevant infobox templates, and several infobox images will need to be adjusted or redone to accommodate this more generalized use. What you currently see in the articles is not indicative of the long term intentions, but these are ultimately lower priority plans that don't warrant an immediate interim policy to follow. It's only a mild inconsistency and inconvenience (if any) in the mean time. Marphy (talk) 03:31, 24 January 2021 (MSK)
As I recall, though, someone changed the Eli Vance page to the HLA variant but then it was reverted. If the initiative is for the default to be the latest depictions, I'm wondering why this would apply in some cases but not others? --Kralich (talk) 19:05, 24 January 2021 (MSK)
As I said, what you currently see in the articles is not indicative of the long term intentions. You are welcome to revert Eli's infobox image if you'd like, but rather than squabble over the current state of the infobox image choices in all pertinent articles, efforts would better be spent on a future proof solution.
