Captain Vance[1][2] is a character cut from Half-Life 2 who was merged with Eli Maxwell to form Eli Vance.

[edit] Overview
Captain Vance, one of the few surviving military leaders of Earth, was to be the leader of the Combine Conscripts while working undercover for the Resistance, and Alyx Vance's father.[1] He was to play a compromised and dangerous role protecting the Air Exchange, while secretly organizing Resistance forces, and planning the Uprising.[1]
During the City 17 uprising after the Air Exchange destruction, Captain Vance also had headquarters in an "emergency bunker" near the inner gates of the Citadel's outer wall, which Gordon was to reach after Alyx suffered injuries during the C-130's crash into the Skyscraper.
[edit] Fate
When Eli Maxwell and Captain Vance were merged to become Eli Vance, Captain Vance's face was recycled into the Citizen Male 08 (still named Vance) and a hostage in Counter-Strike: Source. Odessa Cubbage and Barney Calhoun somehow replace his role as a military leader.[1][2]
